Coaches Profiles

 

Jason Dutton

Jason started judo at the age of 7, training at the Carlton Forum sports centre. He has entered numerous competitions as a junior and senior. After training at Carlton Forum he moved to Hyson Green judo club and Ryecroft JudoKwai. When he reached blue he stopped grading and entered only competitions. He restarted training 8 years ago and obtained 1st Dan (BLACK BELT) in 1998 on a line-up (beating 5 opponents one after the other of the same grade). He joined Portland Judo Club in same year and was offered a position as a club coach. He obtained his 2nd Dan (black belt) in 1999 on a line-up and obtained his third Dan (black belt) in June 2002. He has obtained Silver in the 2001 National kata championship in the Nage-no-kata category.
In 2005 Jason entered the British masters where he won a Bronze medal in the under 73 kilo weight category.
In July 2006 he obtained the senior club coach award. 

 

 

Gary Mellors


Gary began Judo nine and a half years ago, at the time he had been kickboxing for 5 years. The coach who he practiced boxing with was also an experienced Black belt Judoka, He talked him into trying out the sport and he got hooked. He attained his 1st Dan (black belt), coaching license and refereeing qualification all in the latter of 2001.
In 2004 Gary achieved his 2nd Dan (black belt) & is now currently working towards his 3rd Dan (black belt).
Gary’s out look on judo:-"Judo is a complete sport for the mind and body, a physical chess that only improves through hard work and dedication”

 


 

 

Phil Aylward 

 


Phil has practiced judo for 5 years being coached by Jason from a novice to attaining his first Dan (black belt) in 2004. He obtained his black belt via a line up beating 8 opponents in succession in one day.
He entered the British masters over 90 kilo category in 2005, winning a well deserved Bronze medal.
Phil is currently training up for the Scottish masters in October.
